[edit] Facebook Connect

There's currently a MediaWiki FBConnect extention in development: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:FBConnect ... we might want to concentrate any personal effort on contributing to this... - John - 11:18, 11 Dec 2008 (EST)

[edit] Set Template

Hey Tim, maybe it's just me seeing it, and really in the end it's not a BIG deal (and I know you're not a perfectionist). Did you notice that the Supermassive Black Hole link on the main page is offset slightly by the length of its name? I started at it for about a half hour trying to figure out how to change it without completely killing the template and came to the conclusion that I know not what to do. That's mostly due to my limited experience with what was prevalent 8 years ago. Anyway, is it just my screen that's seeing that, or is it universal? And do you have ANY idea what I'm talking about? Colin (Page | Talk | Pack) 22:05, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

It's not just you. They have a twoline class in the CSS for that specific minicard to adjust the padding-top (12px vs 21px normally). Without making things too complicated, there's not really a good way to handle it. We'll just have to deal for the sake of simplicity :) timdorr 00:23, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
*nods* I figured that'd be what it came down to. -_- thanks! Colin (Page | Talk | Pack) 23:40, 5 May 2008 (EDT)
Hi, wrote a few lines of CSS, seems to fix the problem: .name { line-height: 0.9em }--Sniegas 07:44, 6 June 2008 (EDT)
Whatever you did, it works, Tim. -Colin (Page | Talk | Pack) 23:28, 6 June 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Re: Ads

Hey, the ads don't bother me that much, but is it possible to get them below the toolbox? =) Colin (Page | Talk | Pack) 02:00, 8 May 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Some clean up

[edit] Patrolling Pages

I really like the patrol edit function. I don't know if anyone else does it, but it helps to be able to look at the recent changes and know which ones are genuine edits and which are just vandalism. (which we seem to be getting a lot of lately) I'll double check http://meta.wikimedia.com but is there a way to mark a change as patrolled but not valid? Other than reverting it back? It's not terribly important, but it'd be nice to not only be able to look at the page and see the patrolled edits, but also see that the vandalism edits have been patrolled as well. Does that make sense or are you even familiar with patrolled edits? Colin (Page | Talk | Pack) 14:06, 12 May 2008 (EDT)

I'm not even familiar with patrolled edits ^_^ timdorr 16:03, 12 May 2008 (EDT)
Haha. Well if you look at the recent changes page every post that's not posted by a sysop or admin is marked with an exclamation mark. Those are unpatrolled edits. If you click on the "diff" link associated with that edit, there will be a "mark as patrolled" and the exclamation mark is removed. It's mostly so that sysops and admins can see which edits are genuine and which are vandalism. Which is what I said before. -_- sorry, I tend to repeat myself. Here: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Patrolled_edit that's the WikiMedia page for it. Colin (Page | Talk | Pack) 16:17, 12 May 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Locks

I think you saw them in a dev's vault. =) I don't believe they're considered a set. They can't be vaulted and I don't know of anyone who collects them. I'm pretty sure All Sets are used by people for ease of collection. BUT I don't really care one way or another. Colin (Page | Talk | Pack) 14:41, 17 May 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Item Popup

Yeah, I found that out the hard way... I was trying to see if it was feasible to implement something like I did on Napster: [[1]] - mouse over any of the small album images to see. We could do something similar with straight CSS, but we'd need to replace the small images with the large ones and have the browser scale down the images (not ideal as some browsers do this poorly and it increases the page weight). The other option would be for you to add some javascript to the template. If I get some time I'll try and work up a solution. --Mark.Reeder 03:00, 20 May 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Reverting Changes

Sorry about earlier. Had I seen that you had done it, I wouldn't have reverted that change back so hastily. I don't like the ugly red wording of a broken image, so I'm sure you can understand. I'll check to see who the last edit was before I go doing that again (luckily, it's hard to screw things up too permanently on a Wiki ^_^) -Colin (Page | Talk | Pack) 19:04, 29 May 2008 (EDT)

I don't really mind the red text. It's no different from the question mark, since it's just a quick indicator that we're supposed to have an image there. - timdorr 19:05, 29 May 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Browsing?

You working on a way to browse through sets like in our vaults? Great idea! =)

I'm trying, but the damn HTML is getting in the way. I need to think on it some more... - timdorr 16:10, 2 June 2008 (EDT)
*nods* Isn't there a way to change what HTML is allowed? If only for sysops? -Colin (Page | Talk | Pack) 16:13, 2 June 2008 (EDT)
Nope, it's hard-coded. - timdorr 16:14, 2 June 2008 (EDT)
Hmmm. Not fun. -Colin (Page | Talk | Pack) 16:15, 2 June 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Auction House

Hi Tim, Colin said you were the person to talk to about this...

Stemming from the brutality of the new items in the Papa Louie's collection, I decided to auction off my pineapple in a 20-minute 2nd price highest bidder auction... It was fun, and it got me thinking that it shouldn't be too hard to build an auction/sale/trading post site that functions more or less like e-bay, and somehow integrate it with both the PackRat app and this wiki...

From what I've seen, people either straight out sell their cards for credits, or want some kind of trade. This is by far the most common approach, so the site could basically offer a platform for what the trade board is used for now. My proposed (initial) structure:

  • Users can post some sort of ID (either wiki or packrat based) for the item they're selling / looking for.
  • They have an option of giving an id (or a set of ids) for an item they want for trade, or enter a credit amount. This would work somewhat like the 'buy it now' feature on ebay, where a user who agrees to the term buys the item.
  • Message board under each 'auction' for clarifications and questions.
  • If it is integrated with the wiki facebook app, it would be extremely easy for people to send friend requests for the trades.

And, once all this is up, the next step would be fairly easy:

  • Set up a Vickrey (sealed-bid, 2nd price, timed, with optional closed reserve price) auction. Basically how e-bay operates.

Eventually the idea would be to offer a better platform than the discussion boards, which are a complete mess... I've been looking for a decent project to put my Google App Engine account into good use, and this looks like a decent project! Though lack of PHP integration might be a problem as we'd have to have yet another login, though we could probably use the wiki facebook app for this purpose?

Let me know what you think...

[edit] Images as 'Hyperlinks'

Hey Tim,
I wanted to add an icon and then make that icon take me to a page, rather than the icon metadata page. None of the methods given in the Editing help seemed to work however. Is there any plans to allow this in future?
cheers,
Aussieinca 16:56, 21 June 2008 (EDT)

I was working on this, but I didn't find any easy way of doing it. I would like to do it mainly for the front page. Perhaps in the future, but not for now, unfortunately :-( timdorr 20:21, 21 June 2008 (EDT)
oh well, everything is fine the way it is :) I was just trying something a little different, Thanks Aussieinca 09:45, 22 June 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Terms

Hey Tim. I saw that you took down the terms. I had edited that list down to include only common terms (as I'm sure you may have seen). I'm okay with it like you did but I'm going to add a short sentence on the front page pointing them to it. I'm trying to make the Wiki as new user friendly as possible. My parents just started playing and I'm finding that it caters a lot to older players...not in a bad way though.

Just giving you a heads-up. Also I have a lot of energy and I need something productive to do. -Colin (Page | Talk | Pack) 13:26, 16 July 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Re: Images

Hmm. Okay. I get bored sometimes so that's what I do when I'm bored, but I can just as easily play a flash game instead. ;) -Colin (Page | Talk | Pack) 11:01, 26 July 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Re: Protected

I had protected it because I had been getting a lot of edit conflicts while trying to get the three cards we knew of squared away. I hadn't quite gotten back to unprotect it yet but I wanted to confirm some information before I let anyone edit it.

When a new collection's released, people start to go bonkers trying to edit everything at once it gets difficult to actually get some legitimate information in there when people are writing things like "Bow Tie's available in Chicago" or "How do I edit this?" -Colin (Page | Talk | Pack) 19:51, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

Gotcha. I suppose it follows the wikipedia formula. Of course, I'd recommend including edit rights for registered users. Those who are logged in will have been here before and are more likely to understand the unspoken procedure for these things - timdorr 20:29, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
I'll make sure to do that next time the problem (if) arises. -Colin (Page | Talk | Pack) 22:19, 20 August 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Checklists

Geetings, Tim. I'm new to the site, but quickly found that you are the person to talk to if I had any questions.

My favorite section here is the checklists and I've started to contribute using Lohr's excel files as template. I see that you offered to host the files on Lohr's talk page and I was wondering, could take you up on that offer or have I stepped overbounds in taking something away from Lohr? -Mr. Wilson (Page | Talk | Pack) 01:13, 30 August 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Artist Information

[edit] Deletions

Could you delete: Image:Nebraskan Cornfield.med.GIF, Image:Nebraskan Cornfield.med.gif and Image:Nebraskan-cornfield.med.gif? They were attempts at getting medium pictures to work which failed :( Sorry and thanks--Jonru 07:14, 29 October 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Connections Problems

Hey Tim, it appears a bunch of people cannot get on the wiki, they keep getting time outs & "cannot display" messages.. I have no idea how to even look into this, do you think you could take a look =)--TifDaSplif (Page | Talk | Pack) 09:09, 17 November 2008 (EST)
